Romance of Astrea and Celadon - Eric Rohmer
The love story set in ancient Gaul. There is a misunderstanding between young lovers Astrea and Celadon leads to his attempted suicide. Not realising he is still alive, Astrea mourns his death while he is nursed back to health down the river. Before the two are reconciled, Rohmer launches a full-scale meditation on fidelity and romance as only he can.
Similar to Rohmer's past films, many dialogues reveals love, romance, relationships and also fidelity. And he always use the humourous way to present how stubborn and foolish when people in love.
This may be his last film as he is already 87 years old. I am a big fan of him. Though his film a bit boring while too much dialogues and also not much picture scenes (Definitely cannot compare with the hollywood films), there is no one can director a film about love in such way. So subtly revealing philosophy of love and romance.
